CULTURAL ACTIVIST ATTRIBUTES MORAL DECADENCE TO DISREGARD FOR MOTHER'S LANGUAGE

A cultural activist and convener, Gbagede Ewaede Foundation, Princess Adejoke Somoye has decried the disregard for yoruba language, particularly by some parents and educational stakeholders, saying such action has resulted into the reoccurring societal decay which has been stripping the nation of its noble identity.  Somoye disclosed this in an interview in Abeokuta in commemoration of the International Mother Language Day, explaining that "the formation of character, especially at teen age is rooted in the language of birth". Commending Federal Government for the   recent approval to enable the exclusive usage of the mother tongue for the first six years of education, while it will be combined with English Language from Junior Secondary School, she implored that issues surrounding the promotion of speaking Yoruba language must be given priority by all stakeholders in the South Western States. CURRENCY SWAP CHALLENGE: BEWARE OF ANTI-DEMOCRATIC ELEMENTS, EXERCISE YOUR FRANCHISE ON SATURDAY- OLUOMO

Nigerians, especially the residents of Ogun State have been urged to remain calm in the face of daunting challenges created by the ongoing currency swap of the Federal Government so as not to create room for anti- democratic elements to hijack the election process. The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, who gave the admonition in an interview stated that the effects of the ongoing fiscal policy of the Federal Government being implemented through the Central Bank of Nigeria had affected Nigerians negatively as able bodied men and women now spend better part of working hours at the banks' ATM. According to Oluomo, " while it is important to acknowledge that the currency swap is good for the economy, the process of its implementation as currently being experienced has created a lot of socio-economic hardships for Nigerians, we should thus remain calm and not to allow anti-democratic elements to hijack the process.
