OGHA PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE CHARGES MARKET BOARD, OGEPA ON ACCOUNTABILITY, IMPROVED IGR
Ogun State House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption has called on the State Market Board and the State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) to step up measures towards enhancing their operations and ensure accountability in service delivery for the State government to earn the needed funds for more laudable programmes and projects.
The Committee Chairman, Hon. Damilare Bello, threw the challenge, while playing host to the management teams of the agencies during the ongoing consideration of 2023 audit reports on Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government in the State.
Hon. Bello, in company of others lawmakers including Honourables Adebisi Oyedele, Yusuf Amosun, Oluseun Adesanya, Babatunde Folawewo Salami, Lukman Adeleye, Dickson Awolaja, and Musefiu Lamidi counselled the agencies to improve on its revenue drive in the current financial year.
The Committee also requested the State Market Board to provide a comprehensive database of all shops under its jurisdiction, alongside other documents indicating financial inflows and outflows from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023 and a memorandum of understanding between the Market Board and its consultants.
The House Committee also requested OGEPA to provide more documents relating to hazardous waste companies registered with the agency, and encouraged OGEPA to increase its internally generated revenue (IGR) to boost the State economy.
Responding on behalf of the State Market Board, the Acting General Manager, Mr. Kola Oshintade assured that all documents requested would be provided accordingly.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on OGEPA, Hon. Akintunde Farouk Adeniyi, assured that the agency was already setting machineries in motion to aid effectiveness and efficiency which had been yielding results as the agency now generates more revenue than before.
